APPENDIX B CASE STUDIES

Short case studies showing what was built, the constraints, and what shipped.

Quiksilver
Quiksilver Custom

Objective: Deliver a pioneering full-fidelity boardshort customization experience with live visual configuration, integrated into the existing ecommerce cart and checkout flow.

Ownership: End-to-end delivery: implementation, integration, and launch. UX provided. Partnered with one internal ecommerce engineer on existing cart logic.

Constraints: Customization had to serialize into a purchasable line item and survive checkout and downstream processing on a legacy commerce stack.

Delivered:

  • Full-fidelity configurator: every panel plus thread, embroidery, and drawstring options were configurable.
  • Selections updated the visual preview to match the customer’s chosen configuration.
  • Checkout integration so customers could purchase custom + non-custom items together in one cart.
  • Configuration representation carried through cart/order so the build spec could be reconstructed downstream.

Beek
Ecommerce launch + operations backbone

Objective: Launch a net-new, self-hosted ecommerce platform for a brand-new company with operations (ERP/inventory + 3PL) built in from day one.

Ownership: End-to-end delivery: architecture, data modeling, integrations, implementation, and launch. UX provided. 3PL contacts provided.

Constraints: 3PL APIs were constrained, requiring a custom integration layer across operational workflows.

Delivered:

  • Self-hosted ecommerce platform and storefront for a net-new brand.
  • Core data model for products, orders, and inventory aligned across systems.
  • Custom ERP and inventory management surfaces for internal operations.
  • 3PL integration layer connecting commerce/ERP to fulfillment operations (orders, shipments, inventory, returns).

Plantlab
Purchase → access → credentialing platform

Objective: Create a global culinary certification program. Purchase (online or worldwide “getaway” courses), access control, course delivery, and credentialing as one system.

Ownership: End-to-end delivery: implementation, integration, and launch. UX provided. Primary instructor collaboration across Europe/US time zones.

Constraints: Purchase-to-access had to be automatic and reliable (no manual account fulfillment).

Delivered:

  • Admin/instructor login and course authoring surfaces (modules, lessons, recipes, and course metadata).
  • Automated student provisioning after purchase via ecommerce API integration.
  • Support for both online courses and globally hosted “getaway” courses with the same purchase-to-access flow.
  • Student login, access control to purchased content, and certification workflows (tracking, certificate generation, retrieval, and verification).
